On Monday June 8th, we had a wonderful chance to interact with some students from Global Prestasi School (GPS) from Indonesia. The twelve students aged 12 to16 stopped by for an afternoon in order to visit our school during their week-long stay in Japan.

Our 3rd-year junior high students demonstrated the Soran Bushi which they had done the week before on Sports Day. Then they had some time together to talk and get to know each other in their class rooms. We had snacks and traditional Japanese games and activities such as origami, kendama, and the koma. While we had scheduled about 30 minutes for this, the students had such a good time interacting that we extended it for another 30 minutes.

After spending that time with each other, the Indonesian members were given a quick tour of the school so they could see a little more about the school and club activities. Some high school students, mainly from the English club, were on hand to help and to talk with the visitors. We were able to see a little tennis, some badminton and table tennis, as well as some gymnastics and numerous sites around the school. Mondays have fewer club activities but Seiritsu Gakuen students showed their welcoming nature and waved and smiled and called out greetings to the visitors.

The dance club had a presentation dance prepared for the guests and then taught them some steps. The students really seemed to enjoy this. Everyone was having so much fun that we ran overtime. We finished up with exchanging contact details for things like Twitter, and with taking lots of photos in smaller groups. It was a fantastic afternoon for everyone involved.
To the members of Global Prestasi School (GPS) and the supporting staff, “Thank you for coming!”
